Join us for this unique travel photography tour to Turkey, with land arrangements and ATOL bonding by Intrepid Travel, and led by professional photographer, Steve Davey.
Turkey is an eclectic destination - famously spanning the continents of Europe and Asia, with a foot extravagently in either camp. There is great history here too - from the Roman and Greek Empires, through to ancient Islam and the Ottoman Empire. This short, but intense tour takes you on a historical and cultural whirlwind: from the stylish inter-continental city of Istanbul, to the Roman ruins of Ephesus, before taking in the ancient Greek city of Hierapolis and then Konya - noted for the Sufi Dervishes. Our final stop is the Hittite city of Cappadocia - carved into the soft volcanic rock. Judicious use of domestic flights and private transport allows us to cover the highlights of this fascinating country whilst fitting in more chances to come home with excellent photographs than you ever thought possible.
The trip will include extensive photography tuition from professional travel photographer, Steve Davey, countless photo opportunities and the company of fellow photography enthusiasts.
Our adventure starts off in stunning Istanbul, which famous straddles the border between Europe and Asia. One of the great cities of the World, Istanbul is an entrancing mix of ancient Islamic architecture and a vibrant, thriving metropolis.
After some time to explore the sights and travel from Europe to Asia, and back-again we catch a flight to Izmir then proceed onto Kusadasi on the coast which will be out base to explore the incredible ruins of Ephesus and the traditional village of Sirince.
From Kusadasi we drive to Pamukkula to witness the salt travertines that were once used for bathing. We will aim to see these at sunrise and sunset, and will also have the chance to explore the ancient ruins of Hierapolis, an ancient Greek city, which then became one of the foremost cities of the Roman Empire.
Continuing on to Konya, the home of the Whirling Dervishes, we will explore the museum devoted to this branch of Sufism, as well as exploring this striking city.
Our final destination is the incomparable carved city of Cappadocia, where throughout history people have carved homes into the soft volcanic rock formations. This is one of the most breathtaking sights in the country – especially in the early morning when floating above the rocks at sunrise in a Hot Air Balloon. Cappadocia has long been on the universal travellers' Bucket List
On the last day of our tour, we fly back to Istanbul, where we can catch our homeward connections.
Covid19 will of course change the way that we travel and has changed the way that we organise our trips. One of the main things is that on all of my trips Covid Vaccinations are now compulsory. This is to protect the other people on the trip, as well as the people that we encounter on our travels. Quite simply, I do not want to be responsible for future infections in the region. Obviously, if you have a medically certified exemption, then this policy won't apply to you - although it remains to be seen whether local restrictions might still apply. You can see more about this Covid19 policy here.
Covid has also prompted our variable price policy, as it allows us to still run our trips without making a crushing loss - even if a number of people pull out at the last minute. This variable prices are shown in the trip information box and the implications of the policy policy can be seen here.
