This exciting tour visits two of the most photogenic countries in South East Asia: Laos and Cambodia and gives you the chance to learn about travel photography in the company of a professional travel photographer.
We start our adventure in Bangkok, with some time to explore the atmospheric khlongs or canals as well as some of the major sites, before catching a night train to the northern border with Laos. We cross the border and head to the relaxed and languid capital city of Vientiane, where we visit a number of photogenic temples.
We then head north to the stunning karst scenery of Vang Vieng before continuing to remote Phonsavan, which is noted for the nearby Plain of Jars. This enigmatic site consists of hundreds of giant stone jars, which litter three sites outside of town. No-one knows their true origins, but they have been studied and fought over for generations.
Our next destination is Luang Prabang, coinciding with the Pi Mai Lao New Year festivities. Marked by processions, religious rituals and ever-present water throwing, it is a fun, if not wet time to be in South East Asia. As well as the festival we get to explore the best of what this fascinating town has to offer. Every morning hundred of monks head out on their morning alms round in an atmospheric ritual that has changed little for centuries. We also visit the Pak Ou caves, a remote site overlooking the River Mekong where old Buddha statues are retired.
From Luang Prabang we fly to Siem Reap where we will have plenty of time to explore the fabled ruins of Angkor Wat as well as many of the outlying sites and nearby villages. Angkor Wat lay hidden in dense jungle for many years and some of the temples still have giant trees growing out of them. We finish in Siem Reap giving you the option of returning directly to Bangkok, or continuing to explore Cambodia.
Impressions of Laos & Cambodia is one of a unique range of travel photography tours, designed and lead by professional travel photographer Steve Davey with all land arrangements by Intrepid Travel. This means that you benefit from their industry bonding and over twenty years of experience in leading small group adventures. Accommodation is based on their 'comfort' style, which loosely equates to three star accommodation. The exception is at the Plain of Jars where we will be in an original style guesthouse.
Apart from the night train, the tour is organised with private transport throughout, to give us more freedom and flexibility, and to allow us to stop for any photo-opportunities we encounter along the route and to take our own time on our journeys. It also means that we can explore some little visited places en route, such as the Nam Ngum Lake and a number of traditional villages.

On one of Steve Davey's travel photography tours, you will not only have an enjoyable holiday, you will also learn more about travel photography than you ever thought possible. Steve is mindful that people don't just come on one of his tours to improve their travel photography, but to explore fascinating places: consequently, we try to fit in as much as possible, as well as showing you as many photo-opportunities as possible.
Steve mixes illustrated talks most evening, group practical demonstrations and individual tuition and photo critiques to tailor your learning to your own needs and interests. He is always available if you have individual queries and welcomes the chance to explain and inspire. Every person on the tour will get a signed copy of Steve's Book, Footprint Travel Photography as a coure manual.
