Travel Photography tour to Ladakh, India

This Ladakh travel photography tour is a fantastic opportunity to explore the highlights of this unique region of India, and learn travel photography with Steve Davey, a professional travel photographer.

Through a number of incredible drives through spectacular scenery, this photographic holiday explores the best that this literally breathtaking region has to offer. Ladakh is a high altitude landscape sandwiched between the Greater Himalayan and Karakoram Mountain ranges. To the haunting sound of the monks chanting and the aromatic fragrance of juniper smoke we explore the fascinating city of Leh, as well as the Lamayuru and Hemis Monasteries. We also visit the Stok Palace Museum and the traditional Tibetan village of Alchi. By having our own transport we are able to stop along the way, when we encounter photo-opportunities.

Impressions of Ladakh ran successfully in 2010, and we have made a few changes: we drive to the remote Tso Moriri Lake, where our visit is timed to co-incide with the Korzok Gustor Monastery Festival. This should be far more remote than the festival we visited in 2010; and we are expected far more pilgrims to attend. The lake itself is set amongst some of the highest cultivated land in the world. yet there is still wildlife here, including the elusive Snow Leopard and the Tibetan Grey Wolf.

We also make the adventurous two-day journey down the Leh-Manali Highway (one of the highest motorable roads in the world) to the charming town of Manali - which resembles an alpine town, set in a lush and verdant valley. The Leh-Manali highway is one of the great drives of the world. We cross a number of high passes, some of which might still have snow - even in the middle of the Indian Summer. In places the road switchbacks dozens of times, and although there will be some long hours of driving, the scenery is unparalelled!

Travel arrangements on the Ladakh Photo Tour

All of the land arrangements on this trip are provided by Intrepid Travel, and the accommodation is based on their 'original' style. This is defined as clean and comfortable, but simple. Most of the time this will be in locally run guesthouses or hotels, but there will also be five nights of camping - with all necessary equipment provided.

The tour is organised with private transport throughout, to give us more freedom and flexibility, and to allow us to stop for any photo-opportunities we encounter along the route and to take our own time on our journeys.
