Travel Photography Image Galleries

In this section of the Better Travel Photography website, we show images of some of the shoots that Steve Davey has carried out recently. This includes personal projects, commissions and also images from some of his travel photography tours.

This is not just a chance to see some of the most spectacular places and events in the world, but to see some of Steve's theories of travel photography such as composition and shooting a photo-story in action. Over the next few months we will add many more galleries to this section including images from Steve's travel photography trips as well as forthcoming and recent commissions that Steve has carried out for a range of publications.

The essence of travel photography is a celebration of the world: it's places, people, wildlife and culture. This is what has driven Steve to travel so much over the years, and he turned to travel photography as a way to bring the magic and sense of wonder that he feels about the world to other people. Travel photography doesn't have to be a chore though: what greater motivation can there be to get out and see and experience the world.

Land-diving in tribal Vanuatu in the South Pacific

Lying a few hours off the coast of Australia in the South Pacific the island nation of Vanuatu has been voted the happiest place in the world to live! Although ravaged by competing missionaries competing to bring their religion to the islands, there are many people who have opted to lead a traditional kastem (custom) was of life, eschewing 21st century Western life and sticking to their traditional ways. This gallery visits some of the outlying islands of this archipelago, and shows the traditional naghol land-diving of Pentecost island.

Snowmobiling to the Arctic 'Ship in the Ice'

Frozen into the remote Tempelfjorden in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard is probably one of the most unique hotels in the world. The Noorderlicht is a 100 year old wooden Dutch schooner. Known as 'The Ship in the Ice' it is a haven of warmth in this frozen wasteland! You can reach the Ship in The Ice by dog sled, or by snow-mobile: either way you will need an armed guide to protect you from marauding Polar Bears! This gallery was a commission to head to the Ship in The Ice by snow-mobile for the new Virgin website vTravelled.com
