Professional lighting methods produce many of the world's greatest and most inspiring images. You can achieve many of these same results in our studio or on location with lighting techniques that are easy to learn and put into practice, using our professional studio lighting equipment. In addition, we will show you how to use your DSLR's on-camera flash – your Speedlites – along with simple, compact and affordable accessories to create beautiful professional lighting. Working in a professional photography studio in southwest London, we will set up a studio shoot for you, portrait or still life. You will learn to work with monobloc flash heads and with tungsten continuous lights. We will look at various lighting techniques including: balancing two or more light sources; ways to soften or make the light harder with hard-edged shadows; and background light and keylighting the subject.

For portraits, directing your subject is as important as lighting skills – we will explore simple techniques to make people comfortable under the lights.

Designed to be a practical day with the opportunity to learn and to take home images you have shot, this course is ideal for two people who want to learn whilst making portraits of each other. Or make the portraits you have always wanted to shoot of your friends or partner. Once you know the basics of studio lighting, your ability to see your subject photographically improves as you learn to critically assess light and create it in the studio.

Cost of this course: £100

£95 if booked in conjunction with another course (or two people booking together)
