Telling Stories of the Thames with Steve Davey
London is a great city. An atmospheric and historic place with many stories to be told. Starting near Trafalgar Square, we will pay a quick visit to St James Park, Buckingham Palace and Horseguards Parade before cutting through to Parliament Square and the great River Thames. From here, we will walk down the Thames (and crossing the odd bridge) photographing many of the iconic and historic places along the way.
We won't just be photographing the famous places: we will also take into some hidden gems that you probably won't have seen before or maybe even heard of!
The main theme on this course is how you can tell stories with your photographs, and will touch on many elements of documentary photography that you will need to communicate with people who view your pictures. This will include seeing pictures and composition. Photography is essentially about communicating, yet many photographers forget this, and just snap away, producing images that are purely representative. This course will help you to shoot more meaningful pictures.
At the start of the course, Steve will discuss different themes that you can think of as the day progresses to give you some ideas as to what to shoot. He will also discuss some of the techniques that you can use, and also give you help and direction as we go.
The end of the course is timed so that we can shoot some pictures in the blue hour (the best time for night photography, when the sky is a dark and vibrant blue) as well as a few more night photographs, before retiring to a convenient hostelry to review some of the shots that you have achieved on the course. Rest assured though, Steve is always positive about pictures, even whilst pointing out what might be done in the future for even better results.
Although the main focus on this course is how composition can help you to tell a story with your photographs, we will also look at portraits, cityscapes and some of the technical aspects of the medium; and of course any thing else that arises, or any problems that you might be having.
In the course of the day, we will cover quite a bit of ground, and so you should expect to walk quite a distance. If you think this might be an issue, olease contact Steve before booking.
