Marc is from Chicago and has lived in London for over 20 years. He studied photojournalism at the London College of Communications (then the London College of Printing) and began his career shooting news and editorial assignments in the US and then in the UK. He has contributed to many publications worldwide. His work has evolved into a mix of shooting corporate, travel and reportage for various companies and charity sector clients. Having chosen London as home, he loves the city; in the sense that ex-pats are always travellers, he sees London with the enthusiastic eye of a visitor.
Marc often guest lectures at the London College of Communications. He was a founding member of Inside Eye, a non-profit group of photographers making participatory photography projects in prisons, the homeless community and in schools.
Away from the world of commerce, Marc is always working on a handful of personal documentary and reportage projects. His reportage spanning 15 years in the life of a severely autistic boy was made into a series of four short films commissioned by Channel 4. He is a past winner of the British Environment and Media Award for best environmental news photograph. His books include Wild Ireland, a travel guide; and Against the Stranger, a look at the Palestinian experience in Israel. Marc contributes to several agencies and image libraries of various sizes, including Panos Pictures and Millennium Images.
As the associate photographer for Unforgettable Places to See Before You Die and Unforgettable Islands to Escape To Before You Die, Marc shot many of the chapters for each book. Working on these books with Steve was rewarding on every level and brought the two freelancers even closer in mutual respect and professional trust, culminating in these workshops.

In this partnership with Steve, Marc brings more than 20 years of diverse experience in photography, founded on reportage and travel. Working on assignment in extremely challenging places and situations, both he and Steve know how to think quickly, making the most of what can often be limited time, opportunity and resources.

Shooting on Assignment in Kew Gardens or along the River Thames
The location assignment: making excellent photographs is one thing. But making the most of your time and opportunities, good or not so good – that is what successful photographers do. Working as if on assignment, we will show you how to get the most from yourself and from the opportunities we find. This course is run in one of two locations:Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew and the River Thames in London. Kew Gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, containing historic gardens, glasshouses, decorative structures and water features: perfect to explore the photography of natural settings.

Pro Lighting: Studio & Location
Learn professional lighting techniques that produce many of the world's most inspiring images. Working in a professional photography studio in southwest London, we will set up a studio shoot for you, portrait or still life. You will learn to work with monobloc flash heads and with tungsten continuous lights. In addition, we can show you how to use your DSLR's on-camera flash along with simple, compact and affordable accessories to create beautiful professional lighting. For portraits, directing your subject is as important as lighting skills – we will look at some simple techniques to make people comfortable.

DSLR 101: An Introduction to your Digital SLR
Getting a new DSLR? Have one and thinking you could be getting more from it? We will demystify the technology for you and concentrate on the elements that will help you make better photographs, leaving aside the complicated extras that come with having a more complicated DSLR. In addition to learning about your camera, we take you through the technical basics of photography and image making, through to editing and basic processing of RAW images on computer.

Night Photography
Making photographs at twilight and at night has a special appeal and thrill of discovery. Often what you find in your image is not what you expected and the scene is completely new in anything but daylight illumination. Daytime scenes that perhaps appear ordinary can take on a completely different feel and atmosphere at night. The key is learning how to plan for and assess how movement and artificial light at night will translate in the image. With just a tripod and a cable release, you can find possibilities that are simply not available in daylight.

Telephoto Masterclass
The telephoto lens presents the biggest set of challenges of any lens you own and tests your photographic abilities to the maximum. Learning to shoot with telephoto lenses has as much to do with how you see your subject and where you position yourself as it does with handling the lens in the right way. There is no substitute for getting close to your subject and telephotos are crucial for bringing in the action. Telephotos are the lenses that new photographers tend to leave in the bag but with a few simple techniques, we will help you get the most from them.
